WECARN Kenya

We seek to generate, accumulate and transfer knowledge of economic and social change with a focus on development and transition.Our Goals and Activities include the following:-INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENTWECARN-Kenyas overriding concern is to assist in building community capacities so that they become custodian of their own development.  As the organization grows the recipients of its own services place more demands.  Growth, however, necessarily implies greater organizational complexity and higher levels of formalization of processes and practices.  WECARN-Kenya is therefore seriously focusing on institutional development as a way of keeping up to date with the demands of growth as well as remaining a learning organization that helps imbibing and contextualizing new ideas.SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODSThe majority of people in Kenya derive their livelihood from agriculture. Thus, transforming of agriculture and food systems is an essential aspect of broad based economic growth. Our activities are geared towards making a shift from subsistence agriculture to producing for off-farm markets and consumers. This will contribute to a more prosperous rural environment; additional opportunities for employment. INFLUENCING ENVIRONMENTAL AND AGRICULTURAL POLICIESWe participate in advocacy & lobbying for environmentally friendly and agricultural policies and practices that positively affect rural communities and the world as a whole.MANAGING OF INFORMATIONEnabling farmers access information cheaply, at high speed and over vast distances through information and communication technologies (ICT) will enable real time response to relayed information.  Also provision of formal library services through a community resource centre equipped with enough reading materials and managed professionally removes the impediments to much needed development.COMMUNITY HEALTH AND HIV/AIDSEducating the rural community on behavioral change practices is geared to reduce the effect and impact of HIV/AIDS on agriculture and livelihoods of individuals and their families. We have mainstreamed HIV/AIDS prevention and management in all WECARN-Kenya activities/interventions. We also seek to promote enhanced nutrition for the local communities and the growing and use of alternative medicines (herbal).Partnerships for Community Empowerment Donor-support will enhance our ability to respond to all those in need. You can help bring positive and lasting changes to the vulnerable and poor communities by sharing in WECARN-Kenya vision in contributing skills, funds or both to our community support program.
