Seattle-based sisters and O ECOTEXTILES co-founders CEO Patty Grossman and U.S. GM Leigh Anne Van Dusen have proven that two ideas -- indulgent AND responsible - can coexist in home textiles. They started research 4+ plus years ago and launched the company because of being concerned for and inspired by their kids. They researched the chemicals, and especially the production PROCESS (which they have made key to their products), and amazingly there is not one mill in the U.S. that is interested in going as green as they demand, which would cut the carbon footprint for many if they did (including O Ecotextiles). The textiles are used primarily for window and bed coverings, and upholsteryl. One of their taglines is SAFE ENOUGH FOR YOUR BABY'S BEDROOM...LAVISH ENOUGH FOR YOUR MOTHER IN LAW. Fortunately, their resulting fabrics are quite beautiful, lush, chic and meet / exceed all fabrics use standards. They are also one of the first to be certified by GOTS and Oeco-tek standards.Because of their intense demands, CEO Grossman is now heading up the Textiles division for the Sustainable Furnishings Council, and is causing quite a bit of stir with her high level of expectations. Please contact for their article written on "Why and How to Choose Green Textiles", also posted on the SFC website. Their worldwide production partners do not support the sale and use of pesticides and fertilizers, chemicals that poison our soils and pollute groundwater. Their manufacturers treat their wastewater so it doesn't degrade waterways. Their products do not contain toxic chemical residues that may be absorbed through our skin and lungs. O Ecotextiles was selected (announced at Greenbuild) as one of the BuildingGreen 2008 Top 10, in November 2008 at Greenbuild.
