Importance of Organic Fibers and Clothing

And the Organic Trade Association (OTA) reports that the environmental costs of recommended pesticide use run an estimated $9 billion a year in the U.S. 

And it doesn’t stop at foods. Synthetic chemicals in man-made fabrics, the colorings, and the pesticides on Cotton crops all add up hugely too. 

In fact, it takes a third of a pound of chemicals to produce one cotton T-shirt. And wool, conventionally raised, also requires lots of insecticides, some of which have been linked to nervous-system disorders in workers exposed to them, and can’t be much better for the sheep’s health either.

Natural fibers are good for us and the earth, and they are more comfortable. They breathe, provide ventilation to the body, absorb moisture, maintain body temperature and expand or contract with humidity. They don’t mildew or attract dust mites as readily as synthetic fibers. So, we can see how eating organic and dressing organic and in natural fibers is healthier for our bodies and the earth.
